“We Destroyed SIM Cards Used in Kidnap Operations In Anambra”– Arrested Couple Confesses.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a couple over an alleged case of attempted kidnapping. The arrest, carried out by a Joint Security Force comprising the Police and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), followed a technology-driven investigation.
Disclosing this to newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, stated that acting on intelligence, the team apprehended Mr. Okoye Kingsley (36) and Mrs. Chidinma Okoye (27) in the early hours of November 29, 2024, at Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. Several phones and SIM cards used in criminal activities were recovered from the suspects.”
According to SP Ikenga , the couple is accused of sending threatening text messages to unsuspecting victims, demanding ransom payments under the threat of abduction or murder. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to destroying some SIM cards previously used to carry out their operations.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Kidnapping and Robbery Squad for a thorough investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Police Command is also investigating a recent voice note circulating on social media. The voice note detailed a victim’s escape from an alleged abduction attempt involving a security operative.
The Command has taken the report seriously and activated all necessary intelligence tools to identify the culprits and prevent similar incidents in the future.
