The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State has said that it will welcome persons who are willing to contest elective positions in 2023.

The party also restated its promise to run an open-door policy for all members, insisting that the internal democracy must be observed and followed in selecting the candidates of the party for the 2023 elections.

The party leadership made its position known in a statement by the APGA Chairman in Abia, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, on Thursday.

The Abia leadership formally announced that four governorship aspirants have indicated interest to use its platform to run for the coming 2023 elections in the state.

It further revealed that two of the aspirants are from the major political parties in the state while the other two aspirants are technocrats from the diaspora.

According to the party, “We hope to receive other major aspirants as the day unfolds. We encourage prospective members to visit the secretariat at Plot 128 Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, the state capital.”

The party also used the medium to commend the national chairman of APGA, Ozomkpu Victor Ike Oye for his transparency and resolve to ensure that there is fairness and diligent observance of internal democracy in choosing the party’s candidate in the Anambra Election and his further resolve to follow same for the selection of APGA candidates at all levels come 2023.

The state leadership, however, reiterated that there is no sacred cow in its fold, warning that it shall not condone any of such, no matter how highly placed the person may be, as its overall interest and that of the people of Abia supersedes every individual personal ambition or interest.
