2024 Paris Olympics Boxing: Nigerian male, female boxers really delivered – Ex International Boxer
Two Nigeria male boxers and only one Female Boxer that qualified, have ushered Team Nigeria participation in the field of Boxing for Paris Olympics 2024 from just concluded Boxing Africa Olympic Games Qualifers held from September 9th-15th in Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳.
The Names of Male Boxers that qualified are
1. Omole Dalapo Joshua. He won Gold medal for Nigeria in Featherweight (54 to 57 kg category)
2. Olaore Olaoitan Adams. He won Gold medal for Nigeria in Heavyweight (86 to 92 Category)
While only one Nigeria female Boxer that qualified is
FEMALE
3. Cynthia Ogunsemilore. She won Gold medal for Nigeria in lightweight ( 57 to 60 KG Category).
Those that participated but did not qualified are
1 male and 5 female boxers.
Names of Boxers mentioned below won bronze medals but did not qualified for now unless there would be change from IOC in later day.
4. Oyesiji Adeola Omowunmi (Bronze medal) Flyweight
5. Ojo Nene Joy __(Bronze medal ) Featherweight
6. Patricia Mbata __(Bronze medal) Middleweight
According to the requirements for qualification through the above competition. It was only those that won Gold Medal in male categories that qualifies for paris Olympics Games 2024 While Those that won 1st and 2nd position (Gold medal and Silver medals) in Female categories qualifies automatic for Paris Olympics 2024.
Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) gave 3 males and 6 female Boxers opportunity to go and qualify but it was only 2 male and 1 female boxer from Nigeria that finally qualified.
However considering that International Olympics committee normally have (2 qualifications series) Nigeria would have another chance to field in Boxers to go for second qualifications series to possibly secure another slot for Paris Olympics Games participation in 2024.
It is important and has become necessary that all Olympics male weight Boxers categories that were dropped by NBF officials incharge of Olympics trials to be given opportunity to show case their talent to qualify for paris Olympics 2024. So that Nigeria will have more chances to win medal in the Olympics.
However Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, Nigeria Ex International Boxer who monitored the Boxing stated at his residence in Enugu that Nigeria Male Boxers did not disappoint the Country as was anticipated by concerned NBF officials that were responsible for selection of whom to represent the country.
Mazi Okoronkwo wants equal opportunity to be given to all the boxers that won 1st Position in the last trial organized by NBF at Lagos to be fielded for another Olympic Boxing qualifications series before the main Paris Olympics Games in 2024 for the interest of fair play, National Unity and spirit of sportsmanship.
