Separate ministry of youth from sports – Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo urges FG
The Nigeria Ex International Boxer Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo has called on the federal government to separate Ministry of Youth from Sports development.
The sports ambassador made this appeal on Saturday, through text sent to our correspondent
He maintained that this separation is pertinent for proper success to be achieved in both federal and state sports development.
He partly wrote
There must be a structural separation of ministry of youth from sports development.
In our days, athletes receive international scholarship and employment from agencies triggered by sports council and ministry of sports.
But today Sycophants have taken over the activities of ministry of youth and sports development in most state of the federation as SAs, PAs to commissioners making day to day activities of sports to be ignored or frustrated.
Most of them claimed that they can mobilize people for the politicians as praise singers therefore ignoring the mandate of the minister or commissioner in delivering dividend of democracy and career development through sports.
I therefore call for separation of these bodies to give the Minister and Commissioner the required concentration to live up to expectations in all sporting associated events.
