Nkanu East LGA emerges overall winner 7th Edition of Speaker, Enugu State HOA, Grass Root Talent Boxing Championship (Videos,Photos)
The journey which gave birth to this memorable day the 7th Edition Of Speaker, Enugu State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche C. Ugwu Grass Root Boxing Talent Hunt State final Championship, started last year.
Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, the Nigerian ex international boxer and Ambassador for sports boxing who is the coordinator of this event really did justice to the event by going round the schools in the 17 LGAs in Enugu state hunting for boxing talents in the students, fully understanding the need to acquire and discover these skills for potential relevant use of the society.
This 7th Edition of the grass root boxing talent hunt grand finale took event on Monday the 24th day of June, 2024 at PPSMB (Post Primary School Management Board) Enugu state.
The event attracted the presence of many dignitaries which include
1. Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu (Speaker, Enugu state HOA)
2. Chairman PPSMB, Rev Fr Hillary Mgbodile, the host of the event
3. Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, Coordinator of the grass root boxing talent hunt
4. Hon Osita Eze, Honorable representative of Oji-River constituency Enugu state.
5. Perm sec, PPSMB, Mr Remigus Eze
6. Team of Judges with Mr Udeh Blaise (Coach) as the leader
7. Team of Medicals With Mrs Uzobike Ekwitos as the leader
8. Board of management PPSMB.
And many more.
This day, the event solely aims at fishing out, out of all the discovered boxing talents from the 17LGAs of Enugu state, the bests who will be called the champions for further training in the line of boxing.
It is necessary to note that these hunting exercises included women as the photos below have rightly shown. Furthermore, the schools in 17 LGAs of Enugu were fully represented.
The boxing challenge started one week ago with 250 participants.
This participants were hosted for this one week in a comfortable quest house, where they are well fed morning afternoon and night in preparation for this day, the grand finale.
In the opening remarks, the chairman PPSMB Rev father Hillary Mgbodile encouraged young boxers and urged them to see boxing as fun and not fight. He advised them to focus on the target.
Under a well controlled environment, the student displayed their talents.

The speaker in his speech maintained that boxing is more lucrative than any other games as such, encouraged the boxers and promised to support them. He furthers directed that a cash prize of 5 thousand Naira each should be given to all the participants and health education text books written by mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo.

Mazi Okoronkwo in his own speech maintaining already existing protocol encouraged the boxers and listed the winners of the game.
Oji-River LGA won overall third position winning 3 medals.
Isiuzo LGA won 6 medals with 3 male nd 3 female winning the 2nd overall.
Nkanu-East LGA won 9 medals to become the over all winner 7 editions of the grass root boxing talent hunt competition.

In addition, all participants in boxing in this event received a certificate to prove their participation with a cash price of 5 thousand Naira and a boxing manuals.
In the Closing remark, perm sec PPSMB, Mr Remigus thank all present especially the speaker for his love for education and sports. He further thanked the management of the events for their efforts. As well he thank students for availing themselves the opportunity to be participate. Finally he thanked the chairman PPSMB for his encouragement and supports.
The 7th Edition Of Speaker Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Uche C. Ugwu Grass Root Boxing talent State finals championship ended in praise.
