Anambra: 21-Year-Old Woman Confesses To Burning Disabled Elderly Woman to Death in Abagana; Police Arrest Other Suspects

Police operatives from the Abagana Divisional Headquarters in Anambra State have arrested four suspects, including a 21-year-old woman, over the murder of a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer, Anambta State Police Command disclose this to the newsmen in Awka, stated that the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly burned to death in Abagana on January 26, 2024.
SP Ikenga said that among the arrested suspects is Chinenye Ekwenugo, a 21-year-old resident of Ifitedunu. Other suspects include Uzochukwu Okeke, 47; Fidel Anayo, 60; and Ikenna Anene, 54, all from Abagana.
According to him, a statement by the Anambra State Police Command, operatives recovered the charred remains of the victim, her wheelchair, and a casket from the crime scene.
During interrogation, Chinenye reportedly confessed that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently on the run, alongside three others, was involved in the gruesome act. She revealed that the suspects planned to bury the victim in a casket after burning her body but were interrupted by the intervention of law enforcement officers.
Police have launched a manhunt for Ifeanyi Igwe, while the victim’s remains have been taken to the morgue for an autopsy.
Reacting to the incident, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, urged residents to remain calm and assured the public of a thorough investigation. He directed the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive inquiries.
