On one of the previous Saturdays, I left a shoot for the market because I was affectionately in need of ukwa when I stormed into this peanut butter. At first, I didn’t know what it was but I knew there was something. I got attracted and I didn’t even know when I removed my Canon baby for a shot. She obviously didn’t know I was doing my art (do you know I almost forgot what I came to buy 😋😋😋😋 something must just kill a man someday).
I was inbetween going to talk to her when I got a call from Oscar and it was emergency, plus I suddenly remembered I came for ukwa(breadfruit). Somehow I had a strong conviction that I would see her again (I just didn’t know where, but then I remembered my philosophy of _’this world is a small room’_).
I got my ukwa finally and immediately left for home. I was restless to be honest. I had many thoughts; like how would such a beauty still dry herself outside when this contemporary society has offered more options or was she a victim of early marriage struggling to survive? Either she still has more options, why choose hawking? I kept on asking myself questions over and over until I slept off. I didn’t relate my encounter to anyone so I was alone with my thoughts and confusion.
The week had just begun and shoots were just on for me. I had no time for the market and it pained me because I was missing someone I didn’t even know (I really commend those in love. You guys are doing well). When it was Thursday I couldn’t hold myself anymore, I just knew my spirit was already at the market so I came up with an emergency excuse (if you guys see this, ignore it ooo 🙌🙌🙌) and oh my! My crew bought it. So off I went. I arrived at the market and went straight to the spot I met her praying anxiously that I meet her there but sometimes, it is what it is. I didn’t see her! My heart was ripped! I was disappointed _. I searched all over but couldn’t find nobody 🎶🎶_ you know the song right? It kept singing in my mind.
I wasn’t in any mood for songs chacha so I left the place angrily, but an Angel, yes, an Angel said to me, “why not ask people around?” So I walked back to my miracle scene and lucky met a patient old woman whom really didn’t get my description but still signaled to me to go to *_ogbo Anu(meat sellers spot)*. Oh my! Why didn’t I think of that place earlier (because I didn’t think of it). I was already at *_Ogbo Anu_* looking helplessly for her but still couldn’t have a glimpse of her. Hope and patient was no longer by my side. I already concluded it was just coincidence.
As I was about leaving, my heart skipped when it saw something. As typical of me I didn’t recognize it immediately so I had to look again and Wala! There she was in the most shocking clothes I never imagined she could have! Khaki? Nigerian corper? Incredible! My Canon baby was out as usual but this time she saw me. I said to myself the only thing that would stop me from talking to her today is if only the ground opens to swallow me (when you know what you want, you have to be more serious than your government). I waited for her to finish serving some of the customers she had at that time before taking my gentle self to her 😃😃. The first thing I said to her was, “it’s like you have another plan for selling plantain.” She smiled. Chai if you see smile eh! Well as a no dulling guy that I am, I asked her why she was wearing khaki (I no wan assume). I wan know weda na her way na but she said, “oh! Today was my CDS and my mother hasn’t really sold much so I decided to carry it around.” Her English bugodi standard. Your guy lost his head na.. Babe digodi set na suzi suprisupri(babe is set and speaks correctly) with plantain obunisi(on her head) . What other thing could have intoxicated me bikonu?
Her smile alone na European currency (no wonder my Nigerian brothers too like Europe). I got to know a lot about her with time and I have learnt a lot from her over this short period. One thing I know for sure is that Ijay wants to model.
One thing that took me time to understand was how someone as beautiful and elegant as she preferred hawking foodstuffs and even still helping her mother to running the streets like other girls (forgive my ignorance but this is Nigeria na). Anyways, meet my model and my melanin peanut butter. She is up for any endorsement or workmanship. She’s open for modelling and she really needs our support!
NB: i later discovered the person she refered as mum is her landlady….
Make this go round until her helper sees it!
For Ijay.
