Abia State Government through Sports Council/Boxing Association immediately invited and employed Ikechukwu Okoronkwo as active Athletes in the Field of Boxing.
Ikechukwu Okoronkwo qualified at Umuahia township stadium Boxing Trial and represented Abia State in National Open Boxing Championship at indoor sports hall National Stadium surulere Lagos, he won Gold medal to become the then Light Weight Boxing Nigeria/ National Champion.
That, made Ikechukwu Okoronkwo to became the first male athlete/Boxer to have won Gold Medal for Abia State at National open Boxing Tournament at Lagos in 1992.
This, attracted Ikechukwu Okoronkwo’s call to National Camp at Games Village surulere Lagos for National Service wherein the then young Ikechukwu Okoronkwo moved from Light Weight division class from( 57kg to 60kg) to higher weight class Light welter weight division Class from ( 60kg to 63.5kg) to qualified and represented Nigeria in Many international outing in Montreal_ Canada,Cuba and others.
