Peter Obi, Umeh, Uzodimma, Others Present at the installation of Most Revd Lucius Ugorji as the Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi and the Party’s Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Senator Victor Umeh today joined Catholic faithfuls of Owerri Archdiocese at the installation of Most Revd (Dr.) Lucius Ugorji (hitherto Bishop of Umuahia Diocese) as the Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese.

Consequently, His Grace, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji replaces Emeritus Archbishop Anthony J.V. Obinna as the Second Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.

The Installation performed by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Excellency, The Most Reverend Antonio Guido Filipazzi is witnessed by two Cardinals, +John Onaiyekan and +Peter Okpalaeke as well as numerous Bishops, priests and other religious from all parts of the country.

The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma as well as the Abia State Governor represented by the Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu were also present at the epic event.

In his goodwill message, the Papal Knight of St. Sylvester, Senator Dr. Victor Umeh OFR, described the new Archbishop as a seasoned cleric who has performed credibly in the past thirty two years of his Episcopacy as Bishop of Umuahia Diocese thus, will not be learning on his new position as Archbishop of Owerri. He prayed for God’s continued blessings and guidance for him as he continues to shepherd the flocks under his care and to use the new office to contribute more significantly to the growth of the church and to the betterment of the society.

The Senator was later led to a luncheon by a Labour Party Chieftain in Imo State and political ally, Chief Martin Agbaso in his country home in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government.
