Claims of Illegal charges from LAUTECH Nursing lecturers, administrators “wholly untrue”
Investigation has revealed that reports in an online medium on Thursday claiming that LAUTECH lecturers and administrators were extorting money from Nursing students is “wholly untrue and utterly without foundation”.
A local online medium, Oyoinsight.com ran the story alleging lecturers and administrators of illegal exorbitant charges on Nursing students by the Distance Learning Center of the Institution.
The “Oyo Insight” story quoted a statement written by a faceless group— Concerned Nursing Students that claimed “illegal charges were imposed on nursing students and paid into the personal account of their Class Representative and not into the official account of the University.
It was also alleged by the faceless group that some lecturers in cahoots with the Class Representative fix these charges.
But in a statement to Mouthpiece NGR on Friday, a spokesman from the department said: “The allegation that there is a “culture of exploitation” at the department is categorically denied.
“The claims of illegal charges is wholly untrue and without foundation.
“On the contrary, the department is a leader in the struggle against exploitation with a notably strong culture of inclusion and fairness.”
Claims of Illegal charges from LAUTECH Nursing lecturers, administrators “wholly untrue”
“LAUTECH is one of the most disciplined universities in the country and have vested interest in academic performance of her students.”
While speaking with our correspondent, the class executives maintained that “It is quite unfortunate and unethical for nurses in the department to send above allegation against the institution and her administrators.”
“The concerned student nurses after thorough investigations, it was discovered that their information was unruly represented, otherwise, they would have known that nursing students do have informal grouping to carry out objective structured clinical examination, seminars, faculty levy, project proposal defence, final project defence, end of year programme get-together and end of programme social projects in the final year some of these programmes which are yet to be executed.
“It is no new thing that students could agree to make some voluntary contributions towards servicing the group’s welfare and smooth running of the group activities. These contributions were not forced or induced on us by any stakeholder in the institution.”
“It is expedient to note that contrary to the claim of the concerned nursing students, the set 2021/2022 500 Level students are not up to 2000 not to talk of more than 2000 as alleged”.
At the time of filling this report, Mouthpiece NGR was able to establish that students are already disclaiming Oyoinsight.com story as false on the platform’s social media pages likewise in the comment section of OYOINSIGHT.COM’s Facebook page.
However, a facts-check by Mouthpiecengr.com further revealed that the development is unconnected with the school management as purportedly claimed by Oyoinsight.com.
