The NIgeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit (FOU) ZONE B has made a huge seizure of 124 bags of cannabis, popularly known as Indian Hemp from a bandits enclave in Zamfara State, as well as other Pharmaceutical products which were on Thursday July 28 handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency ((NDLEA) and National Agency for Food Drugs, Regulatory Control (NAFDAC) respectively.

At the handing over ceremony on Thursday at the FOU Zone B headquarters in Kaduna, Comptroller A. Hamisu said that allowing such drugs into the society will spike up criminal activities.

“I consider these seizures very important, considering consequences of it reaching wrong hands.

“They are items which did taken van promote all forms of violence like banditry, rape, kidnapping and other violent crime.

“The items were arrested in serious bandit occupied area in Zamfara.

“They were making efforts to take it to bandits area. Our officers took serious risks to seize the items,” he disclosed.

He therefore, urged everyone to cooperate and make reliable information available to further rid the nation of criminal elements.

“This is because security agencies cannot be everywhere. We were there for NDLEA and got the items. We are happy doing it and we are handing over to NDLEA and NAFDAC. I want us to continue to educate our officers to ensure that we work together.

“We need to work together to ensure the country is salvaged

“I am happy that this arrest is made. The way we made the arrest, the suspects escaped, but the vehicles are here, I believe they will come for the vehicles,” he said.

NDLEA Deputy Commander Narcotics, Aliyu Ibrahim Danmusain who received the items on behalf of his agency, said that, “NDLEA highly commends the efforts of seizure of canabis, tramadol and codeine which is a relief to the society.

“The efforts of the men of Customs Service is highly appreciated because they took risk.

“I am calling on other security agencies to emulate Customs. We are all here to fight crime.

“I am also calling on the communities to note that even if Customs, NDLEA and other agencies are not there, they should pass out information which will be treated confidentially,” he said.

Receiving the items on behalf of NAFDAC, Director North West, Pharmacist D.D.Gimba, represented by Chief Regulatory Officer, Mansur Abubakar thanked Customs for combating the menace of drugs in the society.

The items handed over include, 124 sacks of Indian Hemp, 85 cartons Viagra tablets, 104 cartons of unregistered pharmaceutical products and 110 bottles of codeine.

It was gathered that the Indian Hemp was seized in Kaura Namoda on July 18, 2022, while the Pharmaceutical products were intercepted in Gusau, Zamfara State on June 23 this year. Continue reading..
