By Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu
As part of the moves to show appreciation and honour some staff every year, Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Hon Pauly Onyeka, recently held an end of year meeting with staff of the Ministry of Housing, to thank them for their dedication and contributions in the infrastructural development policy of Mr Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo in Anambra State .
Speaking to the workers at the Jerome Udorji State Secretariat Complex, Awka, recently, Commissioner Onyeka appreciated the workers
for their immense contributions towards the efforts and making
the ministry relevant in the state, especially in the transformation of the state.
He enjoined them to double their efforts next year as more projects would be initiated by the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, who is desirous to transform the state and make it a livable, smart, mega, prosperous city.
Hon Onyeka said that apart from observing the annual rites, sometimes such gatherings help to foster strong relationship among workers through the communion of eating together and sharing things in common, which he, for over 20 years, has demonstrated in society .
According to him: “As a commissioner, l run an open door policy which should not be taken for granted. Even in the society, annually, l extend such gesture .
” It is part of a way to give back to the society. The world is nothing. As Christians, we are commanded to make the face of the earth better. But l am surprised that some people still engage in all kinds of atrocities which have repercussions later.”
The staff of the ministry were later given 25 kg of rice and transportation fees, while a resumption meeting of all staff will be held in January next year, where two best staff from the six departments – Architecture, Surveyoring and Building Construction and Maintenance with the Commissioner/Permanent Secretary Officers, Accounts , Planning Research and Statistics, as well as the Administration Department will be selected to be awarded with a prize of N500,000 each, with other consolation prices .
