House Of Reps Hold Public Hearing For Establishment Of Federal University Of Agriculture At Awba Ofemili

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL FOR AN ACT TO ESTABLISH FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AWBA-OFEMILI, ANAMBRA STATE.

~As Awba-Ofemili delegates laud Rep. Onwuaso for sponsoring such development driven bill.

The bill for an Act to establish Federal University of Agriculture Awba-Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, being sponsored by Rep. Sam Chinedu Onwuaso, JP, KSP, PHF (Mkponana) on Monday 11th April 2022, entered another progressive phase as the House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions held a public hearing for the proposed bill in line with the processes of Legislation.

Delivering his brief remarks as the Sponsor of the bill, Rep. Onwuaso described the agricultural sector as a very critical component of the Nigerian economy and thus, any investment and effort aimed at improving the agricultural sector should be encouraged.

He further appealed to the Members of the Committee, Stakeholders and various invited ministries/agencies to consider the Bill as the proposed location is an epicenter of Agricultural activities and would offer Nigerians more opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge and skills in Agricultural Science/Technologies if passed into law; considering the fact that over 80% of Nigerians are today dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods.

Supporting the bill, the traditional ruler of Awba-Ofemili community, His Royal Highness, Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna and Chief Dr. Edmond Okafor (Ikemba-Awba Ofemili) who spoke respectively on behalf of the high powerful delegation of the people of Awba-Ofemili Community, lauded Rep. Onwuaso for sponsoring such a development driven bill and assured the House of Representatives of their readiness to assist, support and ensure that the vision behind the bill if passed into law, is achieved.
