Lagos State judicial panel adjourns petition at the instance of the respondent for the last time

The Lagos State judicial panel on restitution for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters sitting in Lagos today Friday 30th July 2021 adjourned a petition for the final time at the instance of the respondent the Nigeria police who is unable to produce his witness to give testimony.

In the case of Akapo Adekunle vs the Nigeria police force, the matter was for continuation of hearing with the defence calling his second witness, but the respondent which is the Nigeria police force applied for an adjournment because the witness he was supposed to call was on national assignment in Bayelsa state, he pleaded with the panel to grant the adjournment for the final time for the sake of justice though he recognized that the period of extension of the panel’s assignment was short.

The panel frowned at the application but recognized the effort of the respondent in ensuring that justice is done in it’s matter and that the circumstances of bringing witness to court at times were beyond the counsel.

The panel then granted the application for adjournment on the matter though it made it clear that this adjournment to 7th August 2021 will be the final one in view of the short time left for the panel to conclude it’s work.

The panel also conducted hearings into four other petitions which are at various stages of adjudication.
