Pregnant Women Stranded In Asaba As Doctors’ Strike Enters Day 3

Three days into the commencement of the two weeks strike action embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), pregnant women in Asaba are already bearing the brunt as most of them sighted in the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba were being referred to private hospitals.
When LEADERSHIP visited the FMC, Asaba yesterday, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) unit, which used to be a beehive of activities, was calm leaving stranded patients with no option than to head to private clinics.
An auxiliary staff who spoke to LEADERSHIP said since the strike action last three days, they have been idle without any serious activities in the (O&G) unit, because of the strike action.
An expectant mother, who spoke to LEADERSHIP, said she was billed to see her doctor on account of surgery but she was asked to return home or to visit private clinic.
Meanwhile, the chairman, Association of Residents Doctor, Federal Medical Centre, Asaba branch, Dr. Osifo Nwabunor, said they have fully complied with the directive of the national body and have embarked on the two weeks warning strike with the exception of the doctors working in covid-19 isolation centres.
