Real Madrid set to sign Erling Haaland

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge surprised everyone by admitting that Bayern will not try to sign Erling Haaland, as they already have the best striker in the league: Robert Lewandowski. Real Madrid now have a free hand to try and sign the Borussia Dortmund player.

The general manager of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, gave a statement to ‘Tuttosport’ in which he denied the interest of the German club in Dybala.

But that is not all. Rummenigge also had time to talk about one of the most sought-after players in the market, the promising player from Borussia Dortmund, Erling Haaland.

The Bayern manager made it clear that they will not be trying to sign him because they already have Lewandowski in the team: “Haaland is fine in Dortmund and, frankly, as long as we have this Lewandowski, we don’t need him. What will happen in the future I cannot predict, also because I will remain in the position until December 2021”.

He added: “One thing I can say with certainty: with Watzke, the head of Borussia Dortmund, I have a good relationship. And as long as I’m at Bayern, there won’t be another purchase like Lewandowski’s. Over the years we have established friendly relations with Borussia, also in the market”.

After giving Real Madrid a free hand in the fight to sign Haaland, Rummenigge went on to praise ‘Lewy’: “Robert has been the best in the last season: he scored many goals and won five titles. It was really impossible to do better than him. I called Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, and told him that it is not nice that in 2020, without the Golden Ball, there is a place in the honour roll of the best player”.
