Rivers State University extends clearance of tuition fees of newly admitted students

The Rivers State University has announced extension of payment and clearance of tuition fees till May twelveth for its new admitted students.

Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Professor Nlerum Okogbule made the announcement at the fourth-first Matriculation Ceremony of the institute on Wednesday nineteenth April 2023.

Professor Nlerum Okogbule while expressing displeasure that most admitted students are yet to finalize the process of tuition payment and clearance, said after Monday fifteenth of May, defaulting students will be rusticated from the institution.

“It has been observed that most of the admitted candidates have not concluded the clearance processes and payment of fees to formalize their studentship of the university. Most of them have paid the acceptance fees and yet to pay others, even though our fees are one of the lowest in the country. In order to enables such students conclude such processes, the management of the university has graciously extended the period of the processes till the 1th of May 2023. They should therefore put into light the extension to conclude these processes. The implication of this, is that any candidate who fails to utilize this opportunity, will as from Monday 15th of May 2023 lost the countenance as a student of the university. It is hoped that this will also serve as sufficient notice to our dear parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards regularize their studentship within this time frame”.

Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Professor Nlerum Okogbule, while priding the University as one of the high ranking in communities of Universities in the country, said infrastructural development and non disruption of academic activities by Union Industrial strikes for several years has stand out the Rivers state University as first choice among Nigerian Universities.

Professor Nlerum Okogbule while asking the admitted students to count themselves lucky, revealed that nineteen thousand candidates applied for admission into the University in the current session, while eight thousand four hundred and forty-one were admitted into the eleven plus one new faculties of the auspicious university.

Meanwhile some newly admitted students into the faculty of Social Sciences, located at the new campus site in Emouha local government area, a suburb of the Port Harcourt Metropolis, are crying out over activities of some security personnel attached to the new campus. They said they are been treated as secondary school boarding students. One of the victims told our correspondent that they were harassed by one of the security personnel and beaten to cough out five thousand naira for being seen around the campus by 9pm.

One of the students also cried that they were asked to pay the sum of twenty thousand naira for been seen with the opposite sex around the school campus in the evening time.

While some of the students are complaining of the hardship they face in transportation from town to the Emuoha community campus, called on the school authorities and the state government resume the bus shuttle from the main campus to the Emuoha campus.

They also asked for more hostels to be built to accommodate more students, as the campus has only two hostels for the male and female students.
