Basic Education stakeholders committee want the Zamfara state government to establish more orphanage schools.
They say the schools when established will cater for the education needs of the over twenty five thousand whose parents are victims of banditry.
The chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board, Abubakar Maradun, stated this while addressing journalists after the committee’s 5 days retreat of stakeholders with the objective to review the performances and weaknesses of basic education, in the outgoing year in Zamfara State.
Maradun added that the retreat also enabled the board to review the 2017/ 2019 Medium Term Basic Strategic Plan and finalize the draft of 2020 to 2022 Medium Term Basic Strategic Plan, to align with the State Basic Education Short Term Plan with the ministerial plan as well as sharing the activities of the board with critical stakeholders.
The committee also want the state government to reintroduce vocational education, at primary school, to provide basic skills to pupils.
The Basic Education stakeholders committee also resolved to closely monitor teachers posted to rural communities, to ensure they perform their duties, to enhance the education of the children.
