At least N30.000 and above should be paid to every athletes and officials, including media officers, who had participated in state preparatory stages, for National Sports festival Edo 2020, that was postponed due to COVID 19 pandemic.
Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo Nigeria Ex International boxer is calling on every State Governors in Nigeria,to deem it proper through Ministry of youth and Sports to pay this allowances, as deem fit for security purposes, which will also serve as palliative to cushion the harsh effect, of the postponement of National sports festival, Banned on Sporting activities and Stay at home order.
It will be recalled, that this categories of Nigerian are among those, that could have flagged the National colour at Japan Olympics, which was postpone till 2021.Supposing COVID 19 did not shot down activities.
COVID 19 problem had really effected the well being ,of sports man at the grass root, as most of the able bodies youth, have already shun crime, to seek for greener pastures through various fields of sports, but the consequence of COVID 19 have fallen hard on the youth at grass root, which if Government did not check it now, and come to thier aid, could be hard to control in future. Imagine when an able bodies youth ( the strongest,fastest and Smartest people in the communities)is out of training without support from the Government He/She were representing.
The Negative effect could be fatal,which would cost Government huge revenue to check, when this youth convert thier energy to negative means through Human traffickers due to neglect from the part of government.
Government should at fast as they can, Chennel some money for palliative through Ministry of youth and sports to those able youth.
It is a known fact that able bodies youth, in sports, are separated from having private contact with political office holders, even at ward level(grassroot) so that those sports youth, would not be lure to work as political thugs,against thier enemy or opposition. In view of the above no active sports man or woman, have benefited from all the palliatives shared, considering also those shared was tagged the poor of the poorest. Therefore palliative for youth can only for effective when it is shared through Ministry of youth and sports whom has the record of active athletes.
