Supreme court voids Anambra primary election conducted outside the Constituency

The Supreme Court voided a primary election conducted outside the Constituency in line with section 84(5)(i) of the electoral act 2022..

This section states;

Section 84(5) In the case of nominations to the position of a senatorial candidate, a member of the house of representatives and a member of a state house of assembly, the political party shall, where it stands to sponsor candidates;

(i) hold special congresses in the senatorial district, federal Constituency and the state assembly constituency respectively, with delegates voting for aspirants of their choice in designated centers on specified dates.

Many political parties violated this section. But fortunately for some of them, no one challenged this violation at the courts.

Buying the case of APGA, Hon Tony OneWeek is at the Appeal Court challenging the violation in Idemili north and south federal Constituency.

YPP is at the Appeal Court challenging the conduct of the APGA primary election for Anambra south senatorial zone at Awka.

With the position of the Supreme court today on Orlu zone senatorial primary election conducted at Owerri by PDP, APGA won’t have candidates in Idemili north and south federal Constituency and Anambra south senatorial zone.

That’s the law.

Anything can happen at the high court and appeal court, but the Supreme Court has established an authority on this and set a precedent for subsequent suits.
