In the aftermath of the devastating stampede in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, on December 21, 2024, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has visited the hospitalized victims and expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer, Anambra State Command who disclosed this press release issued to the newsmen stated that during his visit, the Commissioner confirmed that the tragic incident claimed 22 lives and assured the injured of the Police Command’s unwavering support for their recovery.

CP Itam expressed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families and emphasized the Command’s commitment to uncovering the cause of the incident.

According to him, Investigations into the stampede are ongoing, with the Police Command determined to ensure accountability.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to crime prevention, emergency response, and the protection of Anambra residents, particularly vulnerable groups, to foster a safe and secure environment.

,”The public is encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts continue to bring clarity and justice to this unfortunate event” CP stated.
