Abia 2023: Why Uche Ikonne is gaining wide acceptance across party line in Abia

The coast is getting clearer. It’s expected in any political circle that people will get to sit back, analyze contestants and thereafter make informed decisions. In principle, nothing significant has been added to the polity to drive this change except that many Abians in their different fields have started making enquiries and seeking to know the personality of Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, Abia State PDP Gubernatorial candidate.

There is a limit to lies. Only those who have nothing meaningful to write about their own candidates will resort to lies to demarket others. But, when it’s later proven to be fake, it offers a certain advantage to the victim of the lies.

For instance, when it was proven that Prof. Ikonne’s Son had not met with Ikpeazu’s daughter before, not to talk of any marriage arrangement, it made mess of other lies both the ones they are preparing to throw. A neutral observer would’ve noted that truly, Prof. Ikonne has much to offer to Ndi Abia and that could only be the reason he is being scrutinized for the task ahead. No other candidate has mentioned his plan for the State, nor purpose for his candidacy.

I have personally listened to those who were students of ABSU during his time as the Vice Chancellor. Someone who stopped exploitation of students in the name of handouts should be commended. A textbook that was sold between #10,000-#12000 to students was reviewed downward to #3000- #4000 to make it possible for students to buy. That’s fatherly. Those who didn’t benefit from this review may never know the level of relieve it afforded Students and their parents.

Prof. Ikonne is a disciplinarian. I would’ve been astonished if he didn’t scold any worker that was out to make learning difficult for students. That he was available to correct anomalies and make Staff who were directly responsible for students improvement and learning to sit up and offer the services of which they were being paid is an excellent administration record. Deployed into our civil service, results will be guaranteed. Those who painted a different picture of such events have also realized it was too big a task to convince people of sane minds that a Professor of such high repute will resort to physical assault to correct anomalies.

Prof. Ikonne is enjoying a wide acceptance from Abians and It cuts across party lines. These are people who have known him for his integrity and straightforward approach to solving problems.
His house and smart campaign office have become a Mecca in Umuahia where everyone is coming to identify with the people’s project.
Prof. Ikonne will improve the welfare of Abians. He has been around and has managed a society where leadership is most tested.

In his time as the VC of ABSU, he fought cultism to a standstill. There was never a protest of any kind throughout his tenure. For the first time in the history of the institution, ABSU was connected to the national grid. To solve the challenge of drinking water in the school environment , Prof. Ikonne started the first water factory in ABSU and improved the living condition of students by building many hostels and classrooms.

Prof. Ikonne established many new faculties and created employment opportunities for Graduate Assistants. He went ahead to secure PhD scholarships in both National and International schools to over 150 of them through TETFUND projects. The records are there in the school.

As we move forward, we shall be bringing some of the initiatives of the erudite Professor for people to understand that Abia will be lucky to have him superintend over the affairs of the State. Continue reading…
