Zamfara Monarch reveals what will restore peace in the state
The Emir of Kaura Namodain, Zamfara State, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad Asha, has said that fairness, justice, and equity for all citizens would end banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
The monarch stated this while delivering a speech at a One Day Conference, on state security, organized by the Students Union, Islamic University of Medinah, Zamfara State Chapter in Gusau, the state capital.
The Emir, who spoke on behalf of the state council of chiefs urged parents to allow their children to memorize their phone numbers in the case of emergency saying that, those engaged in banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminalities have agitated over neglecting them, encroachment on their animals’ path, treated as second class citizens, among others.
The monarch however accused some constituted authorities of not exhibiting justice whenever the criminals were arrested and brought before them.
“Instead, they grant them bail or release high profile criminals who subsequently became a threat to those who arrested them,” he added.
According to him, extra-judicial killings against a particular tribe should not be encouraged, saying that people are taking laws into their hands and would not allow the security operatives to discharge their constitutional duties, which means that they don’t trust them to fight the heartless criminals.
In his own speech, the state Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, retired DIG Mamman Tsafe, described the conference as timely, saying that the state was one of the most peaceful states in the federation since its creation in October 1996.
He lamented that the state started witnessing insurgency and other forms of criminalities like farmers/herders conflict which has fully blown into armed banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnappings which have bedeviled the state for over one decade.
Mamman Tsafe explained that the state government was doing its best to curtail the dastardly acts and restore peace to the state which he said made it to initially resort to peace accord and reconciliation with the bandits.
He also listed some of the government’s gestures to the repented bandits to include the Ruga settlement.
The commissioner further stated that the state government had also provided security agencies with operational vehicles and established Community Protection Guards and provided motorcycles and operational vehicles for their operations among numerous measures adopted.
In his own contribution, the chairman of the conference, Dr Ayuba Muh’d Kaura advised that all hands must be on deck including government, security agencies, and entire citizens to ensure that peace is restored in the state.
