The Nigeria Ex International Boxer and Ambassador for sports in boxing, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo has received a honorable award from the catholic Men Organization.

The award which was given to him on sunday 26th, September, 2021 at St Ambrose Catholic Church Ubakala, Umuahia Diocese by a religious organization in the Church known as Catholic Men Organization (CMO) was tagged “CAPTAIN DEVELOPMENT AWARD owing to his commitments in developing the state through hosting a boxing talent hunt in all the 17 LGAs in Abia state and other selfless commitments toward development in Abia State.

Recall that Mazi Okoronkwo single handedly hosted “A Grass-root Boxing Talent Hunt” program in the 17 LGAs in Abia State without asking for funds from Abia State Government. This he did with the sole motive of fighting insecurity and empowering the youths in boxing skills. This program, he has also extended to Enugu State.

When Mazi Okoronkwo was interviewed on his reasons for funding this huge program ‘Grass-root Boxing Talent Hunt’ program without seeking for funds from Abia State Government, he said “I am not a rich man, and am not doing this because am rich, rather am doing this because i have my people’s development at heart and i believe that good works pay”

Mazi Okoronkwo believed that acquiring skills in boxing will to a reasonable extent engage the youths, bring out their hidden talents, fight insecurity and enhance employment.

According to Mazi Okoronkwo who received this merit award in absence “When I was invited to come to Umuahia for the award. I could not attend the occasion due to my very tight schedule but surprisely I was honoured”.

Speaking further from his residence in Enugu, he said “I received the post of this award from Catholic Men’s Organization, Abia State to God be the Glory”

Mazi Okoronkwo, full of appreciation said “I wish to use this medium to thank the organizers of the event for giving me award even at my Absence”

“He concluded by saying “I believe God in all thing Our people are beginning to appreciate people with high moral conduct and sincere hard work, to God be the Glory thanks, Team Mazi Comr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo”.
