Police Bolster Security Measures Nab Two Suspects, Recover Firearm And Vehicle at Security Checkpoint in Anambra

Two suspects were arrested on Thursday, January 25, 2025, by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad at a security checkpoint on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road near Igbariam.

The release issued to the newsmen in Awka by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command stated that the operation, which occurred around 5:38 p.m., led to the apprehension of two out of four occupants of a white Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 26 CB.

SP Ikenga also said that the suspects, identified as Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both 22 years old and from Benue State, were taken into custody after attempting to evade a security search by jumping out of the moving vehicle.

According to him, the police recovered a barreta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and the Toyota Corolla.

Efforts are currently underway to track and apprehend the two other suspects who fled the scene.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating criminal activities in the state. He emphasized the ongoing improvement of strategies and operational positioning to ensure public safety.
